Abstract

One of the aims of using vertical wind tunnel is skydiving. Since the persons are floating in the flight chamber of wind tunnel, the blockage of them will be affect on the performance of wind tunnel. So for designing of this type of wind tunnel, pressure drop due to the floating persons is important. In this experimental study, using a cylindrical model, the blockage effects have been investigated. When the blockage ratio in the test section is less than 0.15, flow rate reduce about 7% and there is no important effect on the performance of wind tunnel. With increasing blockage ratio in the test section up to 0.2, reducing the flow rate is very high. Also, the arrangement of models in the test section is very important on the pressure drop that we will discuss in this paper.
